This is a "list of sovereign states", containing 203 entries, giving an overview of states around the world with information on the status and recognition of their sovereignty. For the sake of clarity, it is divided into two parts. The Internationally recognized sovereign statesfirst part lists all 193 widely recognised sovereign states, including all member states of the United Nations and VVatican City. The Other statessecond part lists states which are 'de facto' sovereign, but which are not universally recognised by other states. Both parts are arranged alphabetically.
Compiling a list such as this can be a difficult and controversial process, as the status of many entries are disputed.
